Perth Supanova 2009
Saturday morning. It's about 4:00. I haven't slept much that night. Like a child on Christmas day, I was too excited about what lay ahead.
To some it may just be a meet up for the freaks and geeks, but I don't think there's anywhere else in the world I would rather be. Last year was my first convention and ever since I've been looking forward to the next one.
6:30am, my mobile alarm informs me. I get up and start to put on my costume.
I am Asajj Ventress in the 501st, this is my second troop since Nexus Toy Fair and it turned out to be a big one. We raised over $1000 for charity. And that's what makes four months of work and $200 spent on the costume and two hours of make-up all worth it.

When I arrived I met up with the other troopers and we made our badass entrance into the building. The best part, other than being played in by the Imperial March, was that some of my old school friends saw me. They actually recognised me under the make-up and were impressed.

The rest of the day was spent trooping until my legs went numb, although I paced myself better than last year. And I brought food.

My brother was Rorschach, he got his badge signed by Dave Gibbons who's a very sweet guy. I told him that the 'Squid' chapter of Watchmen was some of the most haunting artwork I have ever seen and he also told me that Alan Moore is not as reclusive as is popularly believed. They live just a few blocks from each other.

I saw Greg Cipes, who voices Kevin Levin of Ben 10:Alien Force. Of course I didn't realise it at first because I just heard his voice and said to a friend quite loudly "that guy sounds familiar". I look up and he just says "...hi". I forgot to bring my Ben 10 poster for him to sign.

I didn't go to bed until midnight, I went over to John's house for his birthday and then spent awhile getting all the make-up off of my costume and washing the gel and glue out of my hair. Definitley going to improve that somehow. Maybe a white latex hood instead of a bald cap.

Sunday morning, legs still a little tired, but I felt alot better after seven unbroken hours of sleep.
That day I was the Helena Bertinelli Elseworld Batwoman, a costume I had worked on long before Asajj. Based off of an action figure of mine.
I was determined to show it off somewhere.
I got a lift to the convention centre with Alora. First we went to the airport to say goodbye to one of our friends, Samantha, who was moving to Melbourne. No I wasn't wearing the mask and I had a trenchcoat over the costume. Don't think airport security would have been too pleased otherwise.

We arrived at about 1:00, I was too late to register for the cosplay contest and my picture:

Hadn't won the drawing competition from the day before.
But I didn't mind, the picture that won was a nicely painted portait of Heath's Joker.
And at least some of the winners of the costume contest weren't anime characters like last year.
Not really into Japanese culture. White people can be entertaining too!

My costume was quite popular. Alot more recognisable than the day before, one little boy asked me if I was from Twilight. Grrr!
I had more people asking for photos as I walked around on Sunday. I got alot of attention from little girls, they were so cute! Two of them were Supergirl and Wonder Woman.

Karl Urban waved at me and I turned into a complete fangirl. I wanted to talk to him, but I didn't know what I would say and I was afraid I would make a fool of myself. Michael had to push me into the queque to talk to him.
He's so hot! But once I started talking to him I wasn't a complete wreck. The conversation went as follows:
Me- "Do you like Batman"
"Definitley and you"
"Nah, I just woke up this morning in this costume and thought I should best go to a convention."
He laughs "man, must be wild at your place"

It was good to know that he was already a fan of the franchises that he contributed to. He could talk the talk when it came to Star Trek and Lord of the Rings.

That pretty much sums up an awesome weekend. I was getting bored from a week of staying at home, needed some inspiration. And there's no better place to feel loved, people wanting to take my picture, everyone shares your interests and hugs all 'round, according to the "free hugs" signs people were wearing.

I didn't buy as much as last year, wasn't much variety (or maybe I just bought everything I wanted last year) and things were pretty damn expensive. I spent $60 on two hardcover graphic novels and then I got five Marvel 1602 comics for free because the guys from one of the stalls liked my costume so much and I let them take photos.

Cosplayers; alot better than last year. I actually recognised some of the characters and people generally chose characters that suited them. Nobody likes a Boba Fat. Anyway here's some of my favourites:

The cutest Sorcerer Supreme ever!

Not a convention without a Harley, saw two of them actually:

Mad Hatter, because I'm a Bri-Chan fan from DeviantART. Oh yeah and that Lewis Carroll dude is pretty cool too:

This Dalek belongs to the West Lodge Dr.Who club, might check them out.
People can sit inside this:

Someone was the "heart of the TARDIS" she was simply wearing a name tag with that written on it. But she did park this in various places during the day. It's made of styrofoam. Very nicely done:

I liked this Iron Man, cheap but not too dodgy:

Old Greg and the Hitcher from the greatest show in the world, The Mighty Boosh:

On the left we have a very cool Rorschach wearing a mask painted with heat reactive paint. It moves! And on the left is my brother Jordan wearing a mask made of stockings. I made it:

Awesome Hellboy. There was a crossover between Hellboy and Batman, how fitting:

Birdgirl, my [adult swim] equivalent. Very cool costume, completely accurate to the one in the cartoon. I wonder what she used for the eyes. I was supposed to have white lenses in my costume:

I like Wolverine's shirt!:

Also, there were these two weird leopard people walking around. Original characters?

Video, I'm famous on Youtube!:
